One or two driver/tour leaders on most tours, except for Overland Safaris which always have two professional Acacia crew per Overland trip.

    Where do they stay?

On camping safaris campsites vary from basic to luxurious, from a forest clearing, to a fully equipped site. Spacious, two person tents with built in ground sheets and mosquito nets. Where camping is not practical, we stay in local budget class accommodation.

On Hotels and Lodge tours, a range of options from budget hotels to cottages & deluxe lodges.

    What about food?

Their Overland Safaris, participants share the cooking and shopping and pay a local payment to the Tour Leader. Other tours have some meals included, allowing the chance to experience the local cuisine.

    What does the price include?

With Acacia there are NO hidden extras. When considering a holiday in Africa you need to check prices and products before you buy. Nobody likes to pay more than necessary but sometimes it can be easy to be misled by something that looks too cheap. The general advice is, if it looks too cheap, then it probably IS too cheap! Our prices are as competitive as possible but realistic to ensure services are provided to the level you would expect and that this is done without sacrificing safety and safeguards. Also being half African we like it that some of what you pay remains in Africa to benefits local communities and businesses.

The tour price for all Acacia  tours consists of the core cost that is paid to your travel agent and the local payment that you give to your tour leader on day 1 in Africa.

    All transportation mentioned in itinerary.

Road tolls, camping and cooking equipment, services of a driver/tour leader, accommodation, campsite fees, some meals, major game park and attractions.

    What is Local Payment?

Local Payment is an amount paid by you to your guide (in US dollars cash) on arrival on tour. It is usually collected on the first day or at the pre-departure meeting. It is a way of allowing your tour leader fund money which will be used by them to run the tour. It should be considered part of the cost of your tour and is not tips kitty money nor pocket money for the guide.

There has been much debate over recent years regarding the merits of Local payment VS all inclusive pricing. Here at Acacia we constantly monitor what works best for our clients in Africa and have looked carefully to weigh up the pros & cons of each: The option of paying everything upfront before you travel but not perhaps always being exactly sure what you are paying for, against the benefits of paying part of the tour in Africa as a Local payment where what you are paying for is clearly set out.

We are under no doubt: The Local Payment system is best for Africa. As Africa specialists we don’t have to worry about what might work better in Asia or South America where local transport, infrastructure and banking may be more efficient: we simply do what works best in Africa!

Many operators ask for a lump sum up front and do not explain where the money goes and you will never get a refund of left over amounts. With Acacia this is different! Acacia itemises everything that is covered on tour in the Local Payment, and then allow you do decide whether you want to pay for those activities or save your money for something else.

    So you can either:

    Fully Inclusive Local Payment

Acacia’s Fully Inclusive Local Payment covers all parks, ferries and activities indicated in the tour highlights. By paying this up front, you can then relax, safe in the knowledge that your destinations are paid for and get on with enjoying your tour.

    Basic and Flexible Local Payment

Acacia’s basic Local Payment is mandatory and covers food and camping costs and at least one visit to a major game park per tour. You can then choose to add some or all of the other highlights as part of the Flexible Local Payment and pay for them as you travel.

    Benefitting from Local Prices

By requiring you to pay on tour Acacia ensures you pay local prices at the time you travel. On occasions, if local costs increase, a small increase in Local Payment may arise. Meanwhile, funds not used by the end of the tour are refunded amongst all passengers so you can be sure of receiving the absolute best value for money.

    Who is the Acacia traveller?

Acacia cater for individuals, couples, and families with children of all ages.

Overlanding clients tend to be 18-45, or for those that are active and “young at heart”.
