On arrival, transfer to your hotel. Kigali today is a vibrant and attractive city. Its existence stands as a testament to the resilience of this remarkable country and its ability to move forward from its tumultuous past. Spend the afternoon taking a three hour city and Genocide Museum tour (optional and at own expense).
Depart early to Volcanoes National Park. After a briefing by the national parks guides, begin your gorilla trek in search of these magnificent primates. In the afternoon, if time permits, visit the markets, villages and local communities or take an optional visit to the twin lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo (additional cost).
After breakfast, enjoy the scenic transfer back to Kigali. (B)
Head to the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project headquarters in Ruhengeri for a half day visit with the Gorilla Doctors (morning or afternoon)
To ensure the healthy future of the gorillas, a huge amount of time and effort is put into caring for these critically endangered primates. Spend time with the staff learning how the gorillas are monitored, how life-saving medical care is provided; how health studies are conducted and how veterinary medicine and ecosystem health is taught. You will tour around centre with one of the doctors and watch a presentation about gorilla conservation.
