    At threat of disappearing under the rising waters of Lake Nasser, the magnificent Temple of Abu Simbel was relocated to higher ground. Abu Simbel, the most spectacular monument of Ramses II, honours his God Ra Horakhti, and his queen, Nefertari. This colossal structure was designed to capture the rays of the sun, twice a year, to illuminate the seated figure of the Pharaoh inside the sanctuary.
