Overview for Cambodia
The capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, was once considered Indochina’s loveliest city and it still maintains considerable charm. In addition to such tourist sites as the Royal Palace, the National Museum and Wat Phnom, there are several markets selling silk, silver and gems. Also worthwhile is a visit to the notorious ‘Killing Fields’ and Tuol Sleng Museum, sobering reminders of the brutal rule of the Khmer Rouge.
Siem Reap is home of the Temples of Angkor. Angkor Wat, one of the greatest religious monuments in the world, was built in the early 12th century. Angkor Thom is a large Buddhist temple city and the Bayon Temple within consists of 54 towers, each with four faces. The outlying temples each offer something unique as each king made his mark with his design and material choice.
The perfect tropical getaway, the inviting beaches of Sihanoukville are some of the most unspoiled in all of Southeast Asia.
