Overview for Laos
Vientiane, the capital, is the gateway to an almost untouched land, waiting to be explored. Located on the left bank of the Mekong River and is a charming fusion of French architecture and beautiful Buddhist temples and Vientiane’s most important monument is the imposing That Luang pagoda, a symbol of both the Buddhist religion and Lao sovereignty. Other important sights include Wat Sisaket and Phra Kaew temple a museum housing some of the finest Buddhist sculptures and artifacts in the country.
Time has stood still in the former royal capital of Luang Prabang, a World Heritage Site said to be the best preserved traditional town in South East Asia. Located on the banks of the Mekong River and dominated by the former royal palace, it is a relaxed town of exquisite temples and friendly people surrounded by mountain scenery. The morning collecting of alms by the resident monks is a magnificent sight to behold.
Pakse is located at the confluence of the Mekong and Sedone Rivers.
It is the perfect gateway to the southern region and an excellent starting point for excursions to the former royal capital of Champassak.
