Animals Asia

Animals Asia have been working since 1998 to provide life-long care for rescued bears at their award-winning sanctuaries, and towards ending the bear bile industry in Asia. The use compassion and respect for all animals to bring about lasting change. Since beginning their work they have saved more than 600 bears.

What is
Bear Bile Farming

Over 10,000 bears – mainly moon bears but also sun bears and brown bears – are held in captivity on farms in Asia to have bile extracted from their gall bladders on a regular basis, for profit.

Meet
Stanley

On 7 July 2022 Animals Asia rescued seven bears from the notorious bile farming hotspot of Phung Thuong, near Hanoi in Vietnam. The bears were voluntarily surrendered by the farmer who was caught and charged with illegally transporting 350 bottles of bear bile on 27 May 2022 - the largest haul of illegal bear bile in the country. Before their rescue these long-suffering bears were existing in awful conditions - most likely stolen from the wild as cubs, kept in tiny solitary cages for their entire lives and subject to regular, painful bile extraction. One of these 7 bears will be supported by Adventure World for the rest of its life and will live on as Stanley.
