Arrive in Beijing and transfer to your hotel. This afternoon visit the city’s famed hutongs and the Drum Tower. End the day with a visit to Wangfujing neighbourhood, home to the famous Wangfujing Road, the most commercial area of the capital.
Visit the Temple of Heaven and the Forbidden City. Climb the artificial Coal Hill just behind the Forbidden City for a spectacular view of the entire site which allows you to grasp the layout of the whole of Beijing. (B)
Today visit the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. After lunch, return to Beijing and visit the Summer Palace. (B)(L)
Transfer to Beijing railway station to board a high speed train to Taiyuan. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Pingyao, the best preserved medieval city in the whole of China. The city is a collection of paved alleyways, lined with traditional courtyard- style homes lit with red lanterns and surrounded by perfectly conserved reinforced city walls. The town is a perfect example of the traditional China that most people have in their minds. (B)
Spend the morning exploring some of the other main interests of the region including the merchants’ houses and cave dwellings. Visit the Wang Family Residence, which is made up of an imposing labyrinth of courtyards, small gardens, temples and narrow stairways. On your return to Pingyao, stop in Zhangbicun, a small village famous for its underground tunnels and explore some of the cave dwellings that the region is famous for. End the day with a visit to the Shuanglin Buddhist Temple which is well known for its finely sculptured statues which have been very well preserved and still retain their original colours. (B)
It is encouraged to start the day with an early morning stroll to fully soak up the atmosphere of Pingyao. The city streets outside slowly fill with the sights, sounds and smells of morning, as bikes and pedestrians fill the streets and vendors sell their customised versions of breakfast.
Transfer to Pingyao railway station to board the high speed train to Xi’an. On arrival in Xi’an, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. This afternoon take a bike tour to discover and glide through Xi’an without traffic jams and crowds. During your tour, you will see the impressive Xi’an ramparts built during the Ming Dynasty. Today, they stand restored and reconstructed and are a part of the fortifications still visible in China. (B)
Today visit the Terracotta Warriors. The statues are viewed in three separate pits with pit number one the most impressive, with about 2000 warriors. You will also visit the small museum on site that houses two splendid bronze chariots. (B)
Depart by road to Luoyang and en route visit Huashan. Often forgotten about, Mount Huashan is one of the five sacred Taoist mountains offering incredible views. Head to the Northern Peak by cable car and then walk to the Eastern Peak and admire the breathtaking views along Blue Dragon Ridge. On return to the foot of the mountain, you will be taken back to Huashan train station for the high speed train to Luoyang. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. (B)
Today visit Longmen Caves, one of the finest examples of Chinese Buddhist art. This afternoon, transfer to Luoyang train station for the high speed train to Beijing. On arrival in Beijing, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. (B)
Transfer to the airport where your journey ends. (B)
