Houston is a cosmopolitan city with a wide variety of restaurants but, as it’s Texas, the highlights are Tex-Mex, barbecue or a mouth-watering steak.
Leaving Texas, cross the border to begin your true deep south experience. En route to New Orleans, stop in Lake Charles or Lafayette to sample the boudin, a local speciality sausage, then visit Avery Island, home of Tabasco Sauce. New Orleans invented the cocktail, so this afternoon’s cocktail walking tour is the ideal start to your stay in the Big Easy.
A foodie’s heaven, New Orleans is bursting with flavour. From Po Boys to gumbo, oysters to beignets, the options are endless. Spend a few hours learning and tasting at the New Orleans Cooking School and then explore the city and its food at leisure. (L)

A relative new comer to the foodie scene, Birmingham is now consistently rated amongst the best up and coming culinary destinations in the country. Make sure to visit the original Whistle Stop Café, which is still serving up fried green tomatoes.
A final night in New Orleans to try anything you missed the first time. Drop your car in New Orleans, or continue back to Houston for a complete circle trip.
