Arrive in Jaipur and transfer to your hotel, the opulent Rambagh Palace. This exquisite hotel was built in the 1830s and has served the Jaipur royal family in many capacities. Its lounges, courtyards, halls and rooms are rich in history and style, and there is nothing quite like exploring its vast grounds. The gardens are beautifully kept and home to a vast array of birdlife and flowering trees. Don’t miss the beautiful indoor pool, adjoining the equally lovely outdoor pool in the walled garden. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the palace lawns is the perfect way to start the day.
Today tour the fascinating Pink City, Rajasthan’s capital and one of India’s most entrancing cities. Start with a stop outside the Hawa Mahal, the famous Palace of the Winds. A Jaipur icon, this building is little more than a façade, but remains a symbol of the city and royal life. Continue into the rugged hills beyond the town to the Amber Fort. This massive hilltop construction and former royal home dominates the valley landscape. Take a jeep uphill to enter the fort and explore the royal apartments and terraces like the spectacular Sheesh Mahal, the mirrored hall. Back in town, visit the City Palace Museum, before time to explore the bazaar for silks, leatherware, home decorations, carpets or other Jaipur handicrafts. In the evening, relax at the Rambagh Palace. (B)
After breakfast, depart for the drive to Jodhpur. Arriving in the afternoon, check in to your new palace accommodations at the Umaid Bhawan. The last of the grand palaces to be built in India, it was completed in the early 1940s. This incredible residence remains one of the world’s largest homes – and much of the palace is still used by the present-day royal family of Jodhpur - you may even get to meet them during your stay. Enjoy the views of Jodhpur from the huge lawns and gardens of the palace and relax in the evening at one of its bars or restaurants. (B)
Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast on the terrace before your morning tour of Jodhpur. Drive the short distance to the Meherangarh Fort and take a guided tour of this historic site. Afterwards, explore the Jodhpur bazaar, where Rajasthani desert women in colourful sarees and bangles bargain for silks, vegetables, spices and other daily essentials. In the afternoon, enjoy the facilities of your palace accommodation. (B)
After breakfast, check out of the Umaid Bhawan and begin your drive to Udaipur. Stop en route at Ranakpur to see the UNESCO-listed Jain Temple, with its ornate white marble interiors. Upon arrival at Udaipur take a short boat ride on to Lake Pichola to reach your final palace accommodation, the peerless Lake Palace. The white marble palace almost appears to float on the waters of Lake Pichola. Dating back to the 18th century, the palace was built as a pleasure palace for the erstwhile prince. Today it remains Udaipur’s most enduring symbol, and guests can enjoy incredible views of the City Palace and Udaipur skyline and waterfront from its rooms and terraces. (B)
This morning after a leisurely breakfast in the palace restaurant, take the boat across to the City Palace and tour this historic site. Stroll through some of the market streets of Udaipur, where miniature paintings and other handcrafted items make great gifts and souvenirs. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy more of the Lake Palace and its stunning surrounds. (B)
Today is free until your departure transfer to the airport for your onward journey. (B)
