Departing Sandakan by road, stop at the famous Sepilok Sanctuary which cares for and rehabilitates orphaned and injured orangutans. At feeding time you should have opportunities to view these remarkable close relatives of humans at close range. From here transfer to the Kinabatangan River and continue by boat to your jungle lodge. Along the river there are excellent opportunities to view some of Borneo’s famous wildlife. Orangutan, gibbon, Pygmy elephant, otter, Proboscis monkeys, hornbills, pythons and kingfishers are some of the regularly-encountered species found in the area. There will be further exploration by boat this afternoon. (L)(D)
Rise early for a pre-breakfast boat trip in search of wildlife. Early mornings are an excellent time for animal sightings, before the tropical heat builds up. Return to your lodge for breakfast and some leisure time. In the afternoon, take another boat trip exploring the jungle and spotting local wildlife. (B)(L)(D)
After breakfast, depart your lodge for the return journey to Sandakan, where your tour ends. (B)

For each new Borneo (please confirm) booking made, Adventure World Travel will commit to a one-year sponsorship of an orangutan in need at the BOSF. This sponsorship assists with food, specialised care and support for the orangutans at the sanctuary. For each orangutan adopted Adventure World Travel receives a certificate of adoption, history and regular updates of the orangutan they adopt, which can then be shared with booked guests. Established in 1991, BOS Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and reintroduction of Bornean orangutans as well as the conservation of their natural habitat. With the assistance of local government, communities, volunteers and partners, the foundation works to ensure the orangutans are protected, effective reintroduced and monitored.
