Head to 4th Avenue in downtown Anchorage to experience the festive atmosphere of the ceremonial start of the Iditarod, and the Fur Rendezvous activities, including Running of the Reindeers
Travel to Willow, home of the Iditarod to experience the official race start. Every year hundreds of people come out to watch the start of the race and cheer on the mushers and their dogs as they begin their long journey north.
For a unique look at the Iditarod, take a Chase the Race flight safari, as you witness teams racing through the Alaska Range from your scenic flight. Land near the 7th checkpoint at Rainy Pass Lodge to experience the race from the middle of the action.
Travel north to visit the kennel of an Iditarod champion musher, and experience the thrill of mushing your own dog team. (L)
