Day by day Itinerary of

Big 5 Safari

Day 1


Arrive in Winnipeg and make your way to your hotel. The trip begins when you meet your Frontiers North Interpretive Guide for a meet and greet in the evening.

Day 2

Winnipeg - Riding Mountain National Park

Take in the vast Manitoba prairie on the three-and-a-half hour journey to Riding Mountain National Park. After an introducing to the park enjoy an evening safari - your first chance to spot moose, black bear and bison. (B)(L)(D)

Day 3

Riding Mountain National Park

After breakfast embark on your second park safari. Meet with a Parks Canada Interpreter at a lookout point inside the bison enclosure to learn about its history and significance to the park. In the afternoon enjoy a private tour of the Parks Canada Interpretive Centre and relax until dinner. You may also choose to join the group for an evening safari and see the park in the beautiful dusk light. (B)(L)(D)

Day 4

Riding Mountain National Park - Winnipeg

After breakfast enjoy a final safari before transferring back to Winnipeg in the afternoon. (B)(L)(D)

Day 5

Winnipeg - Churchill

Fly to Churchill this morning. Upon arrival enjoy a tour of the town and surrounding area. This afternoon visit the Eskimo Museum and Parks Canada Visitor Centre to learn about the historical and ecological significance of the region. This evening's activities include a beluga whale tour which takes you into the Churchill River estuary where hundreds of belugas gather to feed and give birth to their adorable babies. You will conclude the evening excursion with a visit to the Prince of Wales Fort. (B)(L)(D)

Day 6


Start today with your second up-close beluga excursion on a three-hour zodiac tour. Return to town for lunch and then join a dog sledding programme where you will learn about the importance of dog sledding in the northern communities. You will also have the opportunity to take a short jaunt through the forest with the dogs. (B)(L)(D)

Day 7

Churchill - Winnipeg

After an early breakfast head out for a six-hour Tundra Buggy excursion into the Churchill Wildlife Management Area. You will learn about the geological and natural history of the tundra while taking in the stunning summer landscapes - you may even be lucky enough to spot a polar bear cooling off in Hudson Bay. At the end of the day enjoy dinner and some free time in Churchill before your flight back to Winnipeg in the evening. (B)(L)(D)

Your Big 5 Safari comes to an end as you check out of your hotel this morning.
