Transfer to the hotel from the airport and visit sites the local historic sites of Whitehorse. Later, Main Street is perfect for strolling and shopping with its shops galleries and cafés.
On our way to Skagway we stop at the Carcross desert, the world's smallest. We will also visit the charming lakeside village of Carcross which teems with gold-rush and First Nations history. Crossing the White Pass is one of the highlights on this amazing road trip and you can also take an optional ride on the White Pass & Yukon Route small-track train on the way into Skagway.
After breakfast, we explore Skagway and Dye, the start of the Chilkoot Trail. Seals can often be seen at the mouth of the Taiya River. In the afternoon, we take the ferry through Lynn Fjord and with some luck we will see the seals, whales, bald eagles and bears, who make this region their home.
Leaving Haines after a hearty breakfast, the road travels along the braided banks of the Chilkat River deep into North America’s best eagle viewing area. After crossing back into Canada, we will stop for a short hike to the spectacular Million Dollar Falls.
The historic Klukshu Village is a First Nation fishing village that is only inhabited in the summer months, we may have the opportunity to taste some traditional bread called bannock, smoked salmon, or listen to an Elder storyteller.
Today, we start our visit at the Kluane National Park Visitor Information Centre for interpretive displays and an audio-visual presentation. Depending upon interest and weather conditions it may be possible to organise a, optional bush plane flight over the immense glaciers of the park. We will return to Whitehorse in early afternoon and transfer you to the airport.
