Following breakfast, drive south to the Mekong Delta, a remarkable agricultural area referred to as ‘the rice bowl of Vietnam’. On arrival in Ben Tre Province, board a local boat for a first glimpse of life on the Mekong Delta’s maze
of waterways. Cruise among the river islands, visit a small factory producing handicrafts made of coconut and taste fresh, tropical fruits on Turtle Island. Have a local lunch and a pagoda visit before returning to Saigon. (B)(L)
This morning fly to Danang and transfer to nearby Hoi An. Beautiful Hoi An is Vietnam’s most atmospheric town, with elegant architecture and a lovely riverside setting. Surrounding the quaint town are picturesque rice fields and sleepy back lanes, while a few miles to the east lies a glorious palm-fringed coastline. On a walking tour of the town, see the 400-year old Japanese Covered Bridge and a Chinese communal hall. (B)
Today enjoy a half day cooking class at the Red Bridge Cooking School, the perfect introduction to Vietnamese cuisine. Shop for ingredients at the local markets, then travel by boat to the beautiful venue for your class. After a delicious lunch of your own creation, return to town for some free time. (B)(L)
Today is at leisure to explore and enjoy this lovely town, or its surrounds – perhaps a walk along An Bang Beach or cycle through the paddy fields. (B)
Transfer to Danang Airport for your flight to Hanoi. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Vietnam’s capital Hanoi blends old world charm with the dynamic bustle of new Asia. From the grand architecture of the French Quarter to the clutter of the Old Quarter trading streets, this is one of Asia’s most distinctive cities. (B)
Spend a half day in Hanoi exploring with a local guide. Admire the iconic One Pillar Pagoda and get a taste of history at the Temple of Literature and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Finish with a walk through the Old Quarter or visit the Women’s Museum. (B)
Depart early from Hanoi for the drive to Halong Bay, where you will board your boat late morning for a scenic cruise around the famous bay. Pass hundreds of limestone karst islands, with excellent viewing from the lounge/dining cabin or on deck. Enjoy lunch on board and mid-afternoon return to Hanoi by road. (B)(L)
