Day 6

Serengeti National Park - Mahale

Following breakfast transfer to Seronera Airstrip for your shared charter flight to Mahale Mountains National Park. In the 1613 square kilometres of the Mahale Mountains, there are still no roads. All you’ll find are forest paths and tracks made by animals over the years. This, and the fact that the only practical way of reaching camp is by boat, adds to the sense of seclusion here. As well as the chimps, the forest is home to many other animals including bushbucks, bush pigs and an incredible array of birds and butterflies. It’s also inhabited by nine species of primate. The next three nights are spent at Greystoke Mahale. Greystoke Mahale sits on a pristine, white sandy beach overlooking the turquoise water of Lake Tanganyika, with the forested slopes of the Mahale Mountains behind. Activities include chimp trekking, boat trips, deep water swims, forest walks and village visits. (B)(L)(D)

Day 7

As news comes in from the trackers, head off into the forest in search of your first group of chimps. As well as time spent watching the chimps as they play, groom and possibly even hunt, you should see other forest game as well as amazing birds, butterflies and plants. Return to camp for the rest of the day at leisure with a choice of optional activities. (B)(L)(D)

Day 8

You will be able to spend time chimp trekking on each full day you’re in Mahale. In addition there’ll be the chance to go for deep water swims, fish in the lake, kayak or just head up to one of the amazing waterfall pools in a quiet corner of the forest. (B)(L)(D)

Day 9
