Start the day with breakfast tacos, check out the food truck scene, or enjoy some delicious Tex-Mex. For the ultimate Texas experience, there are some brilliant barbecue restaurants that are bound to keep you full. If you have the stamina, the iconic Franklin BBQ is the place to be. Be prepared to wait a couple of hours. Later, be sure to visit Rainey Street, where renovated houses turned into bungalow bars mix with food trucks for a relaxed vibe. Don’t forget to experience Sixth Street, with its colourful and bustling array of bars, restaurants and entertainment venues.

On your drive from Austin to Fredericksburg, swing by Hamilton Pool, a stunning water hole where you can cool off, or stop by The Salt Lick BBQ, for all-you-can-eat meat. The heart of Texan wine country, Fredericksburg is one of the USA’s largest producers of wine. With over 30 vineyards in the region, you can go from winery to winery sampling all that they have to offer, while also tasting some of the delectable treats. Originally settled by Germans in the 1840’s, Fredericksburg offers plenty of bratwurst options, and of course, a couple of breweries to check out.

Take the time to uncover the history of the Battle of the Alamo, then relax with a boat tour down the beautiful Riverwalk.
