Experiences not to be missed

DANUM VALLEY CONSERVATION AREA

With an incredible diversity of wildlife, this rainforest reserve is regarded as one of the most important in the region. With many species of hornbills, plus opportunities to see the very rare and vulnerable Clouded Leopard, this area of old growth forest is one of the great surviving refuges for many animal species.

KINABATANGAN RIVER

The Kinabatangan River is probably the most accessible area in Borneo where a wide range of wildlife can be sighted. Visitors can explore the rainforest by boat and spot wildlife along the riverbanks, looking out for orangutan, Pygmy elephants, Proboscis monkeys and hornbills.

SEPILOK ORANGUTAN SANCTUARY

Established in 1964 to rehabilitate captured, injured or abandoned apes, the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, this important centre has played a vital role in returning more than 75% of orangutans who have been brought here to the jungle.

GOMANTONG CAVE

This intricate cave system lies within the largest limestone outcrop in the Lower Kinabatangan area. Simud Hitam, or Black Cave is open to visitors, and the walls of the cave soar overhead to form a spectacular cathedral-like chamber dappled with sunlight.
